Our story begins when the peace and quiet of the realm is interrupted by an attack on the house of the High King and his son. Thus begins the precipitous slide of the world into the cataclysm of apocalyptic destruction. We see the peoples of the kingdoms choosing sides and the animosity and anger that is generated by the division. This emotional atmosphere becomes even greater as natural and political events themselves take a downturn.

Perdita is separated from her home and family. As a babe it is thought that she is the princess destined to be married to the High King. But the occurrences of her life dispel that hope as she is torn from her mother and home and adopted into a new home and family far from the world she was born into. She has no way to find her way home, and in a frightening world disintegrating around her she has to even flee what safety she had known in her adopted home to try and escape annihilation.

Perdita’s parents, Paul and Beatrice, are also caught up in the turmoil and destruction tearing the whole world apart. It separates them in their journey towards home and hope, leaving them to struggle in a frightening world to while trying find peace and each other.

Religion? Why?

“The Visitor” By Tina Steele Penn

Many people travel through this world with little bother about the world they cannot see.   Religion just doesn’t matter to some. In fact they just don’t see the point.  Maybe they think some people NEED to think that there is more than can be seen.  But mostly they think people just believe because of the traditions with which they were brought up.

But what about us who “Believe”?   And why do the words “Religion” and “Believe” seem to always just go together.  In fact, to most people the words “Religion” and “Belief” are interchangeable, so If you ask people what they believe…

You really get a lot of different answers.  Sometimes it is just that they believe that “Belief” is very important, and simply believe for the sake of “Believing”.  Which to a non-believer seems very contrived, and rightly so. So I have listed out some things some people, (NOT ALL) believe.

Things people believe.

  1. We are it.  There is nothing more.  Except maybe Extraterrestrials.  It’s a big universe so, what the heck, why not.  But no, No other powers. Not higher powers, special powers, entities, whatever.  No, nothing more than we can see here, and maybe somewhere else. But still some kind of flesh and bone… ONLY.
  2. A higher power.  It’s out there.  It’s good for everybody, and benevolent, or not.  BUT if not, it’s passive and doesn’t have capacity for caring, concerning, or involvement.  So how much of a higher power. Very High.  Sort of in charge of everything in the end – We’re all going to a good place.  except those who don’t but we don’t really believe that. You know, like Karma.
  3. Speaking of Karma – Lots of gods.  Name your god er, gods.  For every need, hope, blessing, fear.  Thousands upon thousands you have to keep happy all the time, or at least appease.  Yes, these gods are traditional in nature.  But the MODERN Earthperson has their own!  Like, my health, my 401, my kids, my lover, my partner, my job, my own home, car is paid for, vegan, savings account,  My tablet, cable, Big Screen TV, sport team, club, plan, cruise, vacation home, divorce, marriage, siblings, you name it we put all our HOPE in the various barrels surrounding us.
  4. It’s all good.  We’re all going to be fine, as long as we are nice and try hard.  We will MAKE SURE that no matter what happens ( Stuff happens)  We will tell ourselves “WE ARE FINE!”  And no matter what, we are going to be fine, here or wherever we wind up.  Don’t know what that is, but if we’re going to be fine, then of course its a fine place.  We can try so hard at this that we can be at peace with ourselves and everyone, and everything, while we rake the little pebbles- peacefully.
  5. The Western Traditionalists.  The Oh-oh, Judeo-Christian  and Supreme Being ones.  By Oh-oh, we mean, We’re all going to die!!!   Maybe sooner than later. BECAUSE of an ANGRY GOD!  He loves us, but doesn’t do well with disobedience.  At least before we looked a little closer and discovered this GOD is a god of LOVE?  Created the whole WORLD?  And has a big PLAN for the future?

When you put it this way, religion seems a bit… difficult.  Hard, Weird.  But  What if?  What if this world, is a part of a bigger world we cannot see?  A mystical, mysterious, spiritual, non material world, where Love and Hate, Faith and Fear, Truth and Deception, have permanent consequences, and are measurable in quality, quantity, weight, and value.

Where gravity, and atoms, and photosynthesis, and elements, and stars, and black holes  don’t , pardon the pun, matter.

What some of us believe is that things that “Matter” are eternal.  Not material. Not what we can see.  Or Touch or Feel with our eyes and hands, or microscopes or telescopes.  That what is beyond, hidden, unseen, at least to the mortal eyes, requires a different kind of perception to “see”.  Where LOVE is all powerful, patient, kind, gentle, joyful and LOVING.  That there could be a downside is in the nature of EVIL, which is pervasive and everywhere warring against our every happiness, but we also believe…

That LOVE conquers all.

In Spite of Precautions..

“The fire was started in a corner of the stable. Slowly, insidiously, like a malignant virus, smoke seeped up the walls, along the floors, under the doors and in over the window sills. It was late summer so fires were not in many of the rooms of the castle and even the kitchen fire had been banked for the night. The first warning they had that something was wrong was the smell of smoke.
A knight ran into the hall where the family was gathered to tell the King they had a fire in the stable. King Caelestis turned and told everyone to stay in that part of the castle and if the smoke became thicker to climb up the stone steps of the tower to the open air but not to open the door until he returned. Then stepping out into the hall and through the opposite door leading to the nursery, he told the young nurse to do the same.”

“Clearly,” she thought, “the fire was not in the passageway if the kitchen servant could stand there with the water,” so she pulled back the bolt.  They rushed at her pulling a burlap sack over her head, tying it quickly around her mouth so she couldn’t scream.  They bundled her up like a bag of feed over a hard shoulder and carried her from the room, down the stairs, to the main level.  She could tell they were carrying her further down to another level, through the back kitchen, the kitchen garden and pens that held the chickens, piglets, ducks, and goats, though the door in the wall, through the gate, across the bridge, into the wood.  She was slung across the back of a horse and jolted till she fainted from the knowledge that she was most certainly going to die. ”

We bolt the door, we lecture the kids, we take every precaution, but seeping in over the sill, deception and other evil things intrude into our lives and  destroy our best plans and intentions.   We have had everything we need provided for.  (Ephesians 1:3).  We have the protections of eternity in place surrounding us. (2 Peter 1:3, John 16:33)  And still evil invades.  But we know that it is only a temporary condition, (Romans 8:28)  That good will prevail and our hearts tho suffering for this moment (Romans 8:18) will receive the promise of joy in the end. (1 Cor. 2:9)

It is the end, we pursue.  It is the journey that makes it rich, but it is the arrival to the place of joy and peace and reward that we persevere to.  And rest in the promises of the future that is more important than, no matter how grave, the now.

Today’s Adventure

Early yet

Starting out, I am always filled with expectation.

Even if I’ve  traveled this way before.

Not that I love to be “On the road”. On the contrary, I love a settled calm life at home among the things that compose my nest, and when I travel the most incredible assortment of accoutrements must come along, bringing the nest.  Perhaps a better image is a turtle, rather than a bird which seems to be able to sleep anywhere!

I think perhaps it is the idea that enthralls me.  Adventure.  With a capital A!  Something (most anything) might happen.  The scent of the ocean, the sound of the trees rustling.  Sunrise walks and sunsets captured, and if I am truly fortunate I will feel the mist from the rain as I half sleep on a porch while listening to a falling symphony.

So as soon as the shell (Yes, I  changed metaphors) is packed, the errands run, and all other adventurers are loaded, we will commence.  We will keep you informed along the Way!
